In the summer of 2008 I went freelance.
By Christmas 2008 all the evidence was that I was not a successful freelancer.
Over the years that followed I met more and more freelancers. As time went on I met more and more employed people considering or planning to leave their employment.
I started to see patterns. Most of us made the same mistakes. Some of us learned, most of us didn’t.
After a while I started to joke that the one thing I was an expert in was how not to be a freelancer.
In 2013 the evidence on this latter point mounted as I got a proper job again (though with an agreement to allow me to continue freelancing for a number of days a year).
And, it being the 21st Century, there seemed only one thing to do with this dubious expertise.
